The Color Purple DVD
The Color Purple Two-Disc Special Edition Specs: 2 Hrs. 33 Mins. Color Widescreen Dolby Digital 5.1, Dolby Surround 2.0 Languages: English & French Subtitles: English, French, and Spanish Rated: PG-13 The Color Purple is a touching story about two sisters, Celie and Nettie. Based on Alice Walker's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, this tale explores the search for fulfillment in a world of cruelty overcome by love. The film stars Danny Glover, Oprah Winfrey, and introduces Whoopi Goldberg in her movie debut. Every aspect of the film contributes to its heart-warming, inspirational story, especially Spielberg's direction and the excellent editing with seamless blends by Michael Kahn. The film was nominated for 11 Academy Awards. Whoopi Goldberg was nominated for Best Actress; Margaret Avery and Oprah Winfrey were both up for Best Supporting Actress; and the film grabbed nods for Art Direction, Cinematography, Costume Design, Makeup, Best Original Score, Best Original Song, Adapted Screenplay, and Picture. Unfortunately, they all went home empty handed. PICTURE The all-new digital transfer provides a pristine look with a beautiful use of colors, landscape, location, and the field of purple flowers. Containing astounding shots of the sunset, along with superb lighting and scenery, this film is extraordinarily beautiful. With some of the greatest transitions and juxtapositions caught on celluloid, The Color Purple is a very well done 'in the country' piece. AUDIO The soundtrack has been remastered and is presented in both Dolby Digital 5.1 and Dolby Surround 2.0. Along with its dramatic score, the film contains an astonishing sound mix of nature and atmospheric sound, down to the very last detail of leaves rustling and birds chirping. The audio transitions are also very effective and remarkable.
