Dustin Hoffman has vowed to never turn down director Steven Spielberg's offer again—each movie that he rejected went on to wow critics and win numerous awards.
Contactmusic.com quoted him as saying: "I've turned down Spielberg four times - Close Encounters Of The Third Kind, Schindler's List, Always and Amistad. We're friends and we laugh about it but I won't do it again. I was stupid. I knew
Close Encounters would be a big hit, but I was at a time where I thought I didn't deserve the good fortune I had."
The acting legend is envious of fellow actor Jack Nicholson because he has been able to maintain a stable career. While Hoffman has had to struggle with supporting roles, Nicholson has always gotten lead roles. Not only that, Nicholson has played the love interest of much younger women even after crossing his prime.
"He's miraculous in that sense. He seems to work more often and has somehow been able to maintain his ability to get leading roles. Within a year, we all turned 70 - Robert Redford, Warren Beatty, Nicholson and myself. And Nicholson is the only one of us who has somehow been able to maintain it and even he went through a bad patch," said Hoffman.
Hoffman has bagged two Oscar awards - Kramer Vs. Kramer in 1979 and Rainman in 1987.
