Paramount topped the box office on Monday with the early showings for its summer tentpole hit Transformers which grossed $8.8M from showtimes beginning at 8pm.

The Michael Bay-directed action film attacked 3,050 theaters and averaged a strong $2,886 per location from just one night's worth of showtimes. As of Tuesday, its official opening day, the mega-budgeted film is now playing in 4,011 sites across North America.

The film should score $130 million from Late Monday to Sunday period and a strong $67 million on this upcoming weekend."
