DreamWorks News: Spielberg Snubbed at Oscars
Mar 06, 2006 - 04:31 AM
"21 Years after 'The Color Purple' lost in all 11 categories, Steven Spielberg's 'Munich' suffered the same blow losing in all 7 categories.

Out of the 7 categories, 'Munich' lost in three major categories, that of Best Picture, Best Director and Best Screenplay. Although, the victorious films were worthy winners, even the so politically oriented Academy failed to recognize the masterpiece film in a sole category. 'Munich' was target of various groups and lobbies at the time of it's release and was shun down by both Palestinians and Israelis.

'War of the Worlds' also lost in the three categories it was nominated in, Best Sound Mixing, Best Sound Editing and Best Visual Effects and to add to the pain 'Match Point' lost it's nomination of Best Original Screenplay to well deserving 'Crash'

The only upside for Spielberg fans was 'Memoirs of a Geisha' which won in three categories including Best Costume, Best Art Direction and Best Cinematography.

DreamWorks Animation walked home with the Best Animated Feature for 'Wallace and Gromit: The Curse of the Were Rabbit'.
