DreamWorks News: Spielberg & Cruise Reunite for 'War of the Worlds'
Oct 19, 2004 - 12:21 AM
"Spielberg and Tom Cruise plan to do a modern adaptation of the H.G Wells novel, War Of The Worlds.

Variety report that the movie will be a joint production with Paramount and Dreamworks. Cruise and producing partner Paula Wagner will produce with Spielberg directing. The script will be rewritten by David Koepp who has worked with Spielberg before on the first two Jurassic Park films. Spielberg and Cruise have always expressed a desire to work together again after hitting it off on Minority Report so this news comes as no surprise. There's also rumors of the two wanting to work together on a World War II picture, but for now it's another sci-fi masterpiece in the works.

No production date has been set yet and it's not known how this will affect the schedule for Indy 4 which Spielberg recently reaffirmed will definitely happen. It's also rumored that Spielberg has his eye on The Rivals. Any way you cut it, Spielberg is gonna be one busy boy in the next 3 years.

War of the Worlds is one of the most famous sci-fi novels ever written and will be the 2nd H.G Wells adaptation for Dreamworks. Dreamworks produced the 2002 version of The Time Machine and was directed by Simon Wells, a direct descendant of H.G Wells."
