"The Hollywood Reporter reports that Tim Robbins and Miranda Otto (The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King) will join Tom Cruise and Dakota Fanning in The War of the Worlds remake, to be directed by Steven Spielberg. Paramount Pictures will release the project next summer.

Robbins is in negotiations to play astronomer Ogilvy, while Otto would play the wife of the main character, to be played by Tom Cruise. Fanning would play their daughter.

The film is being described as a contemporary version of the 1898 novel by H.G. Wells. ""The War of the Worlds"" was made famous as a radio performance by Orson Welles and then remade into a movie in 1953.
