DreamWorks News: Interview: Carter Smith
Mar 05, 2008 - 10:21 AM
Last week, IGN interviewed director Carter Smith on upcoming 'Ruins' which is short than a month away from release.

Read the excerpt below and full interview here.

IGN Movies: What's the time frame for the story -- meaning, how much time elapses over the course of the film?

Carter Smith: We compressed it from what was in the book. It takes place over about three days, so it's actually quite a bit more condensed than it was in the book.

IGN: What does that mean in terms of the pacing? The scenes we're seeing really spend time with the characters instead of just making them victims.

Smith: I think that one of the things that's different about the film is that it's not set up in a way that they sort of die one by one, and what's going to be the next cool way that someone's going to die? You really get to spend the entire film with pretty much all of the characters and sort of see them go through that transformation and change and what it does to them and how it affects them. So we've got the time to spend with them and see what [the experience] does to them.
