Animation News: DreamWorks & HP Developing Cheap Display
Apr 30, 2008 - 02:50 PM
HP and Dreamworks are looking to bridge that gap by not only developing a display that has the best attributes of great color and compact form factor but also delivering it at a price that comes in at only a fraction of the cost of other high-end displays on the market.

For many in the design industry, CRT displays are a way of life, simply due to the rather bland colors typified by LCD displays. However, nobody likes having their desk cramped by a clunky CRT display. Though there are a high-end colorful and thin displays, the tend to cost an arm and a leg.

The new product, to be called DreamColor, according to CNET, is intended to maintain a consistency of color from design to print, and beat the prices of other high-end displays. Using LED technology, the new displays will function (obviously) with all operating systems, including Linux, Windows and Apple OS X. Best of all, HP and Dreamworks claim the new displays will only cost a quarter of what the other high-end LCDs on the market cost.

Hopefully the new displays, which have yet to be technically announced as far as pricing is concerned, will round out the display market a bit more. As it stands, it would seem many industry professionals would be glad to get their artistic hands on a well-rounded display for an affordable price.
